Antique
French Ormolu Rococo Boudoir Clock Set ~ Louis Boname
~ French - Circa 1890 ~
~~ Excellent condition, fully working ~~
A beautiful original Antique French Rococo clock set by
the rarely seen maker Louis Boname of Seloncourt. It
is stunning in its original ormolu (fine gilded bronze) which is bright and
clean. The case is of classic Rococo design, waisted, keyhole shape with
acanthus leaf shoulders, 'C' scroll feet standing on a serpentine base and
surmounted by elaborate finial of a spray of flowers. Candelabra have branches of stylised flowing and twisted foliage,
standing on round bases. The front, rear and sides of the the clock have velvet
lined fretted sound panels.
The design is beautifully bold and heavily moulded in gilded
brass, well chased and finished. It is modelled in the round and so would
display very well on a table but is also narrow enough to sit on most mantles.
The Dial is beautifully chic, enamel on copper, it is complete
with its original delicately fretted brass hands and convex glass. it is signed
for the retailer Richard of Troyes.
The French movement is by Louis Boname
and has the mark is on the movement
backplate. It is in clean and fully
working condition and is complete with an old replacement pendulum. It runs for
8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell, the video clip below shows
the clock running and striking!
The finish of the set is excellent - bright and clean and no
losses. There are a few very minor areas of wear or discoloration. The dial is
in excellent condition with no chips or scratches, just a very faint mark
near the nine o'clock. The original glass has some light scratches. We have replaced
the red velvet with new. The set displays beautifully as you can see below.
 Louis Boname
of Seloncourt clockmakers mark on the movement backplate
and the retailers mark on the dial.

About us
- All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in
France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in
original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have
developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul
the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they
will run trouble free.
